Supernobody: Checkered Pastures (LP)

$20.00

Free MP3 download & GTRNR sticker

I discovered the music of Mike Elliott in the early 2000s obsessing over his numerous lo-fi folk records, which would oscillate between surreal and homegrown sounds. While I loved those records, I also imagined the possibilities of Mike going into a proper studio with a band. I suspect Mike got curious too. Supernobody’s Checkered Pastures sounds like a band discovering a whole new artistic landscape to explore for years to come. I’m reminded of Jason Molina turning from his solo work toward Magnolia Electric Co. or Neil Young working with Crazy Horse. Not only did Mike’s instincts prove fruitful, but he also employed some of the best players in Athens, Ohio. Their combined personalities coalesce on Checkered Pastures in a sort of big-bang event that’s propelled them to make many more records. There’s always something beautiful about hearing the magic when it started, and Checkered Pastures is a perfect example.
